This Sway Minds Spotlight explores the intersection of K-Pop and Hip-Hop, featuring Che Pope, Quincy Jones III, Chris Lee, and John Yang.
Between 2012 - 2014, American producer and songwriter Che Pope went from a partner, to the head of A&R, to the chief operating officer of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label collective, and become one of the most influential figures in contemporary US rap and hip-hop culture. Recently, he’s penned and produced hits for A$AP Rocky and The Weeknd, but his work dates back to the early ’90s: deeply involved in the production of Lauryn Hill’s iconic The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, as well as working as head of A&R at Warner Bros, producing alongside Dr. Dre at Aftermath Records, and composing film scores alongside the legendary Hans Zimmer.
Quincy Jones, III, also known as QD3, serves as an Adviser at KickLabs and FEM inc. Mr. Jones has an extensive knowledge of the entertainment industry along with a wealth of innovative ideas. Mr. Jones was a Producer or Executive Producer on a variety of projects at QD3 Entertainment, including the Beef series of documentaries and Beef: The Series, a TV extension of the documentary project. Mr. Jones spent two decades producing multi-platinum albums filled with hit after hit, working with artists such as Tupac, Prince and Dr. Dre. In 1999, he expanded his production efforts to include film and TV production, creating QD3 Entertainment. He has been a Member of the Board of Advisors at Heatwave Interactive, Inc. since June 2010. He is a Hip-hop Music Producer, Television Show and Film Creator, Composer. and entrepreneur. Mr. Jones attended Berklee College of Music.
Since joining SM Entertainment’s A&R department in 2005, Chris Lee has played a visionary role in the evolution of Asia’s leading entertainment company. He made a name for himself by developing SM’s peerless production system, which involves a global network of more than 900 hit songwriters (from legends like Teddy Riley to pop sensations like Bruno Mars). Lee’s efforts introduced the songcamp model to K-pop, setting a new precedent for the Asian music industry as a whole.
John Yang is a rising leader in entertainment, named by KOCCA (Korea Creative Content Agency) as one of Korea's TOP 100 young creative leaders in 2016. A creative and strategic thinker possessing solid leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, he has overseen full cycles of various projects, from concept to final delivery for more than a decade. His career started in 2008, acquiring broad entertainment experience including A&R; financial forecasting; PR; marketing; promotion; as well as negotiating domestic and international business affairs for both Hollywood and K-Pop. John has worked with top Korean entertainment companies including JYP Entertainment and Fantagio Music, working directly with well-known K-Pop artists and global talent. Currently John operates as head of International Strategy and Planning in SM Entertainment’s Producing Division, leading and supporting numerous TOP K-pop artists’ achieving global breakout phenomenon.

On the private financing side, Dave recently served as lead placement agent on DocuSign's $85mm and ForeScout's $76mm financing round.
